KCI wins injunction against Smith & Nephew in U.K.

This article was originally published in The Gray Sheet

Executive Summary

A U.K. patent court has entered an injunction against Smith & Nephew, prohibiting it from infringing on two Kinetic Concepts Inc. negative pressure wound therapy patents, though the injunction is stayed pending appeal. The court ruled in June that sales of Smith & Nephew's Renasys NPWT products infringe on two KCI patents. Smith & Nephew noted in a July 30 press release that the Renasys products will continue on the U.K. market pending an appeals court review. KCI, maker of the competing V.A.C. therapy products, won a related victory over Smith & Nephew in a recent U.S. lawsuit (1"The Gray Sheet" March 15, 2010)
