Executive Summary
European trade association Eucomed's 1guidance on implementation of Unique Device Identification (UDI), issued July 22, "strongly advocates a standardized approach" based on global standards with regard to UDI. The trade association notes that its members are increasingly using two-dimensional bar codes to identify their products and that these should continue to be used in parallel with radio frequency identification (RFID) as problems with RFID are worked out. Eucomed is also in favor of a risk-based approach to tracking and tracing that focuses on the highest risk devices first and exempts low-risk device categories
