Executive Summary
Spine start-up CEO: Long-time orthopedic executive Andrew Paul Greenberg is tapped as CEO of Disc Motion Technologies May 27 just as the firm's first product - the CE-marked True Total Spinal Motion Segment System - is being launched. The system is an all-in-one artificial lumbar disc, semi-rigid spine stabilization device and dynamic pedicle screw implanted via an incision in the back, rather than the more burdensome abdomen-initiated anterior approach required for other approved artificial discs, Disc Motion explains. Greenberg moves from his post as managing director of Link Orthopaedics, which is being acquired by Small Bone Innovations (1"The Gray Sheet" Feb. 11, 2008, In Brief). With Link, he was responsible for early development of the Charité artificial lumber disc before it was sold to Johnson & Johnson in 2003 and the PMA-pending S.T.A.R. total ankle replacement. Greenberg replaces Jud Carlson, who will remain on board as managing director of Disc Motion
