Hologic R&D: Software and breastplate additions to Hologic's Selenia will allow full-field digital mammography system to perform breast tomosynthesis, according to the firm, which plans to file a PMA supplement in 2004. Tomosynthesis allows for viewing 3-D image slices of 1 mm or less and has the potential to eliminate tissue-obscuring lesions, the firm stated at the Radiological Society of North America annual meeting Dec. 1-3 in Chicago. Computer-aided detection (CAD) software technology eventually could migrate to the Tomosynthesis platform, Hologic claims. GE Medical Systems also is aiming for a tomosynthesis application for its Senographe 2000D (1"The Gray Sheet" Sept. 2, 2002, p. 13)...
