CDRH has adequate resources in fiscal year 2001 to initiate enforcement of postmarket requirements on hospitals that reuse single-use devices, Office of Surveillance and Biometrics Director Larry Kessler confirms at Food and Drug Law Institute annual meeting in Washington, D.C. April 18-19. "The good news is that most hospitals are getting out of the business," he announced, citing preliminary data from a recent survey of a sample of hospitals conducted by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The JCAHO survey suggests that 20% of hospitals in the U.S. are currently engaged in the practice
