The operator of approximately 1,100 dialysis clinics in North America, Europe, Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region currently, Fresenius says it "has asked a banking consortium to investigate the placement of new preference shares to finance possible acquisitions." On June 23, the firm completed its acquisition of the 87 clinic facilities that make up the international and non-continental U.S. operations of DaVita, formerly known as Total Renal Care Holdings, for $145 mil., including $3 mil. in debt. A definitive agreement had been signed in January. Fresenius says it "will continue to pursue clinic acquisitions on a global basis that are financially accretive and located in markets that the company regards as strategically important"
