Executive Summary
Shipment of SonoSite, Inc.' s 5.4-pound, hand-carried, digital ultrasound system to hospitals worldwide commences Sept. 21. A 510(k) for the device cleared FDA on March 26 (1"The Gray Sheet" April 12, p. 21). The system, which sells for approximately $20,000, will be marketed in Japan by Olympus Optical Co., in Europe by Esaote S.p.A., and in the U.S. by PSS World Medical subsidiaries Diagnostic Imaging, Inc., for hospitals and diagnostic imaging centers, and Physician Sales and Service for distribution to physicians' offices.
