FDA FY 1998 budget: House Appropriations/Agriculture Subcommittee scheduled to hold mark-up June 25 on proposal allocating $13.65 bil. among FDA, Department of Agriculture, Farm Credit Administration and Commodities Future Trading Commission. The $13.65 bil. allocation for FY 1998 received from the full committee is comparable to last year's $12.9 bil. when cuts in welfare programs are accounted for. The subcommittee says FDA is a high priority, but acknowledges it will be difficult to make up for the $68 mil. cut in federal outlays for the agency proposed in the Administration's budget ("The Gray Sheet" Feb. 10, p. 3).
