Carotid angioplasty, with and without adjunctive stent placement, has been promoted "widely" by physicians at continuing medical education seminars sponsored by medical institutions, professional societies and manufacturers, "suggesting that it is an established procedure when in fact it is an experimental procedure," Beebe et al. state.
