LaserSight: Orlando, Florida-based firm obtains exclusive license from the University of Southern California to commercialize a device designed to improve and further automate photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) with any excimer laser. Company officials say that use of the device would obviate the need for use of a blade to remove the epithelial layer of the cornea, the procedure currently performed as a preliminary step in PRK treatment.
