Executive Summary
MEDICARE SURGICAL DRESSING PAYMENT SAVINGS OF $22.3 MIL. COULD BE ACHIEVED if the Health Care Financing Administration brought its fee schedule in line with the lowest retail prices for the products, the General Accounting Office says in a report released Sept. 12. GAO concludes that "Congress should consider authorizing [the Health Care Financing Administration] or its carriers to promptly modify prices" for durable medical equipment and other medical supplies "to allow Medicare to take advantage of competitive prices."
