Executive Summary
LOWER COCHLEAR IMPLANT MINIMUM AGE THRESHOLD could substantially improve patients' speech and language skills, but evidence currently does not support use in children under two years old, a National Institutes of Health consensus panel concluded at a May 15-17 conference in Bethesda, Maryland. "We would guess as we are looking at the future that the [current] two-year cut-off may change, but right know we don't have enough evidence to say that it should," said panel Chairperson George Gates, University of Washington, at the panel's May 17 press conference.
