Executive Summary
All defendants in the breast implant class-action settlement have committed to their participation in the program, according to the U.S. District Court in Birmingham, Alabama overseeing the settlement. The defendants had until Sept. 9 to pull out of the settlement. Major participants include Dow Corning -- which is the largest contributor, paying $2 bil. of the $4.2 bil. fund -- Baxter, Bristol-Myers Squibb and 3M. The settlement was approved by the court on Sept. 1 as "fair, reasonable, adequate and in the best interests of class members" ("The Gray Sheet" Sept. 5, p. 4)
