Executive Summary
BRAIN/SPINE MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING CLINICAL PRACTICE DATA is lacking, the American College of Physicians states in a revised position paper on MRI of the brain and spine that was published in the May 15 issue of Annals of Internal Medicine. "Suggestions on when and how to use MRI in clinical practice must be based on weak evidence," the paper states. ACP's position paper is based on a study of the published literature through March 1993 that it commissioned and updates a 1987 policy statement that was based on literature through 1986.
