Product liability legislation

This article was originally published in The Gray Sheet

Executive Summary

The Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on S 687 March 24, according to Sen. Howell Heflin's (D-Ala.) office. The bill, which passed the Senate Commerce Committee by a vote of 16-4 in November ("The Gray Sheet" Nov. 15, 1993, p. 30), is expected to reach the Senate floor by April 11. The Judiciary/Courts Subcommittee held a hearing on the bill on March 15. Although similar legislation has been defeated several times in the past, S 687's supporters are optimistic about the bill's chances of passing this year. One former opponent who has changed his mind is Sen. David Pryor (D- Ark.)
