Executive Summary
Results of the "Diabetes Control and Complication Trial" released at an American Diabetes Association meeting June 13 in Las Vegas indicate that intensive monitoring of blood glucose levels result in a "delay in the onset and a major slowing of the progression of" complications in patients with Type I diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus). The ADA notes, however, that the results of the 1,441- patient study may not apply to people with non-insulin- dependent diabetes mellitus.
