Executive Summary
Rep. Pete Stark (D-Calif.), chairman of the House Ways and Means health subcommittee, plans April 14 hearing to address "issues relating to clinical laboratory services and durable medical equipment," according to a March 26 press release. The subcommittee points out that the Congressional Budget Office has estimated that President Clinton's fiscal year 1994 budget proposal ("The Gray Sheet" Feb. 22, p. 1) includes provisions that would reduce payments for DME by $651 mil. over five years. Stark recently introduced legislation (H.R. 1255) aimed at preventing DME-related fraud and abuse.
