3M Takes Smaller Than Expected Hit For Earplug Failure Prior To Health Care Spin Out

3M will pay out more than $15bn in settlements reached this year after agreeing to a $6bn settlement over its ear defenders.

3M announced that its previous plan to spend $1.2bn to fully dispose of lawsuits surrounding its Combat Arms Earplug line has failed, and that it must spend a total of $6bn. 

In 2007, 3M signed an agreement to acquire personal protective equipment manufacturer, Aearo Technologies, a $1.5bn deal that it hoped would expand its portfolio of more peripheral medical devices.
