Top Ortho Firms Paid $516M To Physicians In 2022, Open Payments Data Shows

Analysis of Open Payments data compiled by CMS shows that Medtronic, Smith + Nephew, DePuy Synthes, Zimmer Biomet and Stryker paid a total of $516m to physicians in 2022. Top spending categories: Royalties, acquisitions and consulting fees.

The five biggest orthopedic device companies – Medtronic, Smith + Nephew, Johnson & Johnson’s DePuy Synthes, Zimmer Biomet and Stryker – reported physician payments totaling $516m for 2022, according to a report published earlier this summer on a website maintained by the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
