Minute Insight: CMS Expands Medicare Coverage For CGM

The new policy expands coverage to more Medicare beneficiaries using insulin to treat diabetes, as well as people who need help managing hypoglycemia, and removes the prior requirement of multiple daily insulin injections.

Abbott and Dexcom are praising a new Medicare policy that expands coverage of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) for people with diabetes who use insulin and for people who struggle with hypoglycemia that may cause dizziness or unconsciousness.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service enacted the new local coverage determination on 16 April.
