Some Essential Cardiac Devices In Short Supply, FDA Warns

The US Food and Drug Administration is alerting health care providers that some cardiac devices from a major supplier are in short supply.

The US Food and Drug Administration issued an alert to providers about shortages of intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABPs), intra-aortic balloon catheters (IABs) and spare parts from New Jersey-based supplier Getinge Maquet/Datascope.

In a 29 November letter notifying customers of the shortages, Getinge says it continues to manufacture the devices and parts though at a pace slower than needed to fulfill...
