So, You Built A Surgical Robot. How Do You Sell It?

CMR Surgical has grown rapidly since being founded just over eight years ago. However, unlike most other medtech companies, CMR is not selling a ~$30 diagnostic test, or a ~$5,000 pacemaker. It is selling a complex surgical robot, called Versius, with a price tag rumored to be in the seven figures.

Based in Cambridge, England, and running with its slogan of “Transforming Surgery. For Good,” CMR Surgical has demonstrated explosive growth since its founding in 2014.

Thanks in part to its nearly $1bn in funding, the company now employs more than 1,000 people and next year will be opening a new 7,000 square meter manufacturing site...
