EU Lacks Reimbursement For AI-Based Medtech, Warn Manufacturers

Medtech products based on artificial intelligence (AI) have the potential to transform the treatment paradigm in Europe, but manufacturers say reimbursement challenges are hindering product development.

The benefits of AI for patients and health care providers range from faster product development to more accurate and speedier diagnosis. However, at a recent meeting in Brussels industry voiced concerns that there are insufficient reimbursement options in EU member states for the companies that make these innovative, but expensive, products.

During an event hosted by trade organization MedTech Europe, expert panelists outlined their perspectives on the benefits of AI-enabled medtech and current challenges in bringing innovative products to patients.
