Medtech Insight’s second bimonthly digest of Chinese medtech industry news sourced from Omdia includes updates on the national device regulator’s latest annual report and a review of the companies and technologies on display at the recent China Medical Equipment Fair.

The latest annual statistics report from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) showed that the number of Chinese manufacturers of medical devices rose by 46% to 26,465 in 2020.

The need for COVID-19-related device exports, such as face masks, propelled much of the growth in new company numbers locally, and this came on top of the ongoing trend of more companies set up to meet growing demand in the domestic market
