New FDA Device Cybersecurity Director Isn’t New To The Issue

Kevin Fu, a University of Michigan associate professor, has been named the US agency’s acting director of medical device cybersecurity. In his new post he’ll be able to mold the agency’s regulatory approach.

While Kevin Fu was just named the first acting director of medical device cybersecurity at the US Food and Drug Administration, medical device cybersecurity is a topic he’s been thinking about for at least the past decade.

FDA principal deputy commissioner Amy Abernethy on 2 February announced and welcomed Fu to the agency as an “expert in residence” to help lead its cybersecurity efforts.
