The incoming Biden administration will waste no time using the Defense Production Act (DPA) to ramp up the manufacture of personal protective equipment (PPE) to fight the coronavirus pandemic, a member of the president-elect’s COVID-19 task force said on 16 November.
Signed into law in 1950, the DPA gives the federal government broad authority to, among other things, order manufacturers to make particular products in a time of great national need.
