US CMS Should Delay Adjustment In Pay For E/M Services Until COVID-19 Crisis Passes: Device Firms

Industry comments on 2021 physician fee schedule rule also support new payment codes for telehealth

Medtech companies commenting on the proposed 2021 Medicare physician fee schedule expressed concerns about lowered payments to surgeons and doctors during the COVID-19 crisis.

If the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) finalizes its proposal to make budget neutrality adjustments downward to patient evaluation/management payment codes, surgeons and doctors will be hit particularly hard because less surgeries and care are taking place during the COVID-19 crisis, industry says.

At least three medtech firms – Medtronic Inc., Edwards Lifesciences LLC and Boston Scientific Corp. – asked the CMS to delay or somehow mitigate the impact of the budget neutrality...
