CMS: ‘Follow Device Manufacturer Instructions’ To Disinfect Devices During Pandemic

Hospital and health care facility managers who want to prevent the spread of infection in patients susceptible to the novel coronavirus were advised on 8 April on how to disinfect ventilators and other devices in a set of newly updated guidances from the US Medicare agency.

The US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on 8 April instructed hospital and health care facility operators to take care when cleaning and disinfecting devices used by COVID-19 patients, using the instructions for use (IFUs) originally supplied to them by product manufacturers.

However, in lieu of the original hard-copy paper documents that came with the equipment, almost all the IFUs from different ventilator makers can be retrieved online.
