The US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on 1 November released a home-health use final rule detailing coverage of a permanent home infusion-therapy benefit for patients under Medicare Part B. The rule says certain types of infusion pumps and related services are covered under the durable medical equipment (DME) benefit.
Examples include pumps that infuse intravenous drugs for heart failure and pulmonary arterial hypertension, immune globulin for primary immune deficiency (PID), insulin, antifungals, antivirals, and chemotherapy (in limited circumstances).
