NHS chief executive Simon Stevens was rushing through the list of new NHS England achievements small and large as he addressed the huge crowds in two separate arenas at the NHS Expo 2019. He listed, for example, the Christie NHS Foundation Trust’s treatment of 80 patients in its proton beam therapy unit since it began receiving patients in December 2018. It is the first of two PBT centers being set up by NHS England.
He also pointed to NICE’s recommendation that the NHS use Novartis’ Luxturna gene therapy in children with vision loss caused by inherited retinal dystrophy from confirmed RPE65 gene mutations
