India’s medical device pricing storm looks unlikely to abate any time soon, with another round of price caps on stents being enforced. The spotlight is also shining on the sharp variances in trade margins for catheters in the country.

India’s apex pricing regulator, the National Pharmaceuticals Pricing Authority , has tweaked prices of stents yet again – this time capping prices of drug-eluting stents, including metallic DES and bioresorbable vascular scaffoldBVS)/biodegradable stents, at INR27,890 ($433.82), down from INR29,600, while upping, albeit marginally, the prices of bare-metal stents to INR7,660, from INR7,260.
