US FDA has green-lighted the first mobile software application to help treat substance use disorders (SUD). Pear Therapeutics' reSET software received de novo go-ahead as prescription-only adjunct treatment for patients undergoing outpatient therapy to treat alcohol, cocaine, marijuana and stimulant SUDs.
The application provides cognitive behavioral therapy to patients in substance recovery and is intended to teach them skills that help increase abstinence resulting in better outpatient therapy retention. While the app is approved for treating abuse to several different substances, it is not approved for opioid addiction
