Executive Summary
Philips Medical Systems has launched two new foetal-maternal ultrasound monitors across a number of European, African and Middle Eastern countries. Both the Avalon FM40 antepartum (pre-birth) and FM50 intrapartum (during labour) monitors feature a built-in colour monitor, and an external display with touch-screen capability that can be mounted in a different room to the patient. This allows the doctor to interact with the monitor even when they are away from the patient's bedside. Both monitors can measure maternal blood pressure, SpO2, maternal and foetal ECG and maternal heart rate. The systems can monitor the mother and up to three babies simultaneously. In addition, the transducers on both devices are constructed with a soft material to increase patient comfort, said the firm.
