House Panel Passes Infectious-Disease Fighting Fund

The House Appropriations Committee's Labor/HHS Subcommittee approved an additional $300m in funding next year for an "Infectious Disease Rapid Response Reserve Fund" to be run by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

While Congress would provide an additional $300m for the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention to fight the Zika virus and other infectious diseases in a Labor/HHS appropriations package approved by a House subcommittee July 7, the bill would be paid for, in part, by defunding any Affordable Care Act programs in 2017.

"[The bill] includes critical funding for health and disease research, pandemic preparedness, and jobs and education programs. …The legislation also defunds existing ObamaCare programs and prohibits any new discretionary funding...
