Sports injuries are on the rise, as is the kind of joint degeneration that comes with long-term use, for example, degeneration of the meniscus of the knee in runners or in the elderly. According to US Markets for Arthroscopy Products, a recent report from Windhover/Medtech Insight that discusses in great detail the markets and products relating to the minimally invasive repair of injuries to the joints, there were 4.2 million arthroscopy procedures on the knees and shoulders in 2005. Overall, the US arthroscopy products market is worth over $640 million and it's projected to grow at an annual rate of almost 5% to reach approximately $1 billion in 2010.
