Following a launch to the military medical market in July, a next-generation wound dressing with hemostatic and antibacterial properties is set to be available to the acute care market in early fall. The product, ChitoGauze, comes from Portland-based HemCon Medical Technologies Inc., which previously released two other bandage products that incorporate chitosan, a biopolymer material derived from a substance found in the shells of shrimp that the company says has natural hemostatic properties.
