Originally a tool for biologists, confocal microscopy provides high resolution in vivo imaging of cellular and subcellular tissue structures in real time. As a clinical solution, the technology is meant to help bridge the gap between more imprecise macroscopic imaging technologies (such as MRI, CT, PET, high-resolution ultrasound, etc.) and microscopic techniques used in the clinical laboratory.
