Allegations of placing implantable cardioverter defibrillators in violation of a national Medicare coverage determination have led 457 hospitals to settle with the Department of Justice for more than $250 million and DOJ says it is continuing to investigation additional hospitals.
The settlements, the result of a five-year-plus investigation, were inked with 70 different hospital systems, including many of the largest in the U.S.
