Covidien Further Bulks Up Vascular Biz With Sapheon Buy

Just one week after inking a deal to buy neurovascular product firm Reverse Medical, Covidien announced the purchase of another vascular device maker, Sapheon, which focuses on venous disease treatments.

In its second move in a week to beef up its vascular offerings, Medtronic Minimally Invasive Therapies said Aug. 28 it has bought venous disease device firm Sapheon Inc. for an undisclosed amount.

Sapheon is the Morrisville, North Carolina-based privately held developer of VenaSeal system, which uses a specially formulated medical adhesive to close the great saphenous vein in patients with varicose veins...
