CMS Will Consider Disclosing Physician Pay Information Case-By-Case

CMS announced a new policy Jan. 14 under which it will evaluate requests for individual physician payment information on a case-by-case basis. This is a change from a 34-year-old restriction on disclosing any individualized reimbursement information for doctors.

CMS will evaluate Freedom of Information Act requests for individual physician payment information on a case-by-case basis the agency announced in a notice posted on the Federal Register Jan. 14. The agency will also evaluate on a case-by-case basis requests for information that, combined with other publicly available information, could be used to determine total Medicare payments to a physician.
