Hologic’s Tomosynthesis Improves Cancer Detection Rates Of Mammography In Study

3D breast tomosynthesis improves the recall rate and cancer-detection rate of mammography, according to a retrospective study of 454,850 examinations. The results may be good news for Hologic, which has struggled to accelerate adoption for the technology due to lack of reimbursement.

Hologic Inc.’s efforts to grow its 3D breast tomosynthesis business may have gotten a boost this week with positive data published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.

The addition of tomosynthesis to digital mammography decreases the tests’ recall rate and increases its cancer-detection rate, according to results of a study published in the journal June 25.
