Johnson & Johnson Medical Inc. subsidiary DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. has agreed to pay about $2.5 billion to settle the bulk of lawsuits from patients who needed revision surgery to replace the firm’s ASR hip system, which was recalled worldwide in 2010 due to high revision rates. The firm announced the settlement agreement, inked with a court-appointed committee of lawyers, Nov. 19, the same day that it was presented to a group of judges presiding over the multidistrict and multistate litigation.
