Lotus Launches In Europe: Boston Scientific Joins Crowded TAVR Field

The firm announced the CE mark and European launch of its transcatheter aortic heart valve replacement device Oct. 28. Boston is one of at least seven firms with a TAVR device now on the market in Europe.

Boston Scientific Corp. has joined a crowded European transcatheter aortic heart valve replacement market with the launch of its Lotus TAVR system at select centers. The firm announced the CE mark and initial limited launch of the device Oct. 28, with plans to accelerate commercial site expansion as physicians and centers become fully trained.

Edwards Lifesciences Corp.’s Sapien and Medtronic PLC’s CoreValve lead the European TAVR market, but at least five other companies with competitive devices claim next-generation procedural advantages.
