Rep. Leonard Lance, R-N.J., and a bipartisan group of co-sponsors introduced a bill July 18 in the House that would exempt device and drug user fees from budget cuts under the sequester. The across-the-board budget control mechanism has blocked FDA from using all congressional appropriations and industry fees, including $2.9 million of the full $98 million in user fees the device industry paid in fiscal year 2013, that otherwise would be at its disposal to review devices and other products.
