India-based Biosense Technologies has a novel product: a smartphone app, called uChek, which uses the phone’s camera to semi-quantitatively read urine dipsticks. It is 99 cents in the iTunes App Store, plus the price for the accompanying kit and separately manufactured dipsticks, coming in well below the cost of a conventional urinalysis machine.
The novelty of the app led to mainstream media coverage – it was featured on the BBC and The Colbert Report, among other outlets.
