Leona Brenner-Gati, acting deputy commissioner for FDA’s Office of Medical Products and Tobacco, left the agency May 3 due to “unexpected personal circumstances,” according to a memo from Commissioner Margaret Hamburg issued that day. Brenner-Gati, a former industry executive, has been in the role less than three months and with the agency about eight months. Brenner-Gati was hired in September 2012 as associate commissioner of medical products and tobacco, and she took the new role of deputy commissioner in February after Stephen Spielberg left the agency.
