Merit Medical Systems Inc. will expand its offerings of single-use cardiology products to original equipment manufacturers by acquiring Thomas Medical Products Inc. for $167 million. Merit announced closure of the deal Dec. 20. Thomas Medical, formerly a unit of GE Healthcare, designs and develops catheter-based vascular access and delivery devices for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in cardiac rhythm management, electrophysiology, interventional cardiology and interventional radiology markets. Merit also makes disposable devices for use in interventional and diagnostic cardiology and radiology procedures. Thomas Medical “adds significant technology and sales base to our cardiology business” and “substantial breadth to our existing OEM business,” said Merit CEO Fred Lampropoulos.
