Policy Makers Ponder Sending Device Data To Electronic Health Records

In the not-too-distant future, health care providers should be able to accept patient data from blood pressure cuffs, glucose meters and mobile health apps for integration into electronic health records.

Integrating patient data from personal medical devices and mobile health apps into electronic health records is on the horizon for U.S. health care delivery, Farzad Mostashari, national coordinator for health information technology at HHS, confirmed during an Aug. 7 conference call with reporters.
