CMS Touts Growth Of Accountable Care Organization Program

The Medicare agency has 154 provider organizations participating in shared savings programs and has received letters of intent from another 400 who may join next January. One provider details ways its use of medical technology may change as it moves to accountable care.

The Medicare Shared Savings Program added 89 new accountable care organizations early this month, and has received more than 400 letters of intent from groups that want to apply for the program’s next start date of Jan. 1, 2013, CMS announced last week.

With the additions, CMS now has 154 organizations participating in various Medicare shared savings programs serving more than 2.4 million beneficiaries in 40 states and the District of Columbia, CMS...
