The Obama administration says it plans to delay implementation of a massively expanded reimbursement coding system in response to complaints from health care providers that the transition will be too disruptive.
The ICD-10 diagnostic and procedure coding standard will bring an almost 10-fold increase in the codes Medicare and other insurers have at their disposal to classify health care items and services. It is scheduled to replace the current ICD-9 system in the U.S. in October 2013 under current regulations
